NEI is a successor to both Too Many Items and Recipe Book. It arose around the same time as Craft Guide when Alexandria and a few others on IRC suggested that Chickenbones merge both Too Many Items and Recipe Book to remove their greatest flaws, ironically too many items, or in the case of recipe book, too many recipies. Too Many Items was great, but the one thing it lacked was an easy way to search and sort your items. When you had a mod like Red Power coming along with 10000 items both TMI and Recipe Book were racking up the pages. Even if you don't want to use NEI for cheating in items, you will likely feel right at home with the Recipe component of the mod.

After going on a vacation to the tropics, Cojomax99 decided that Minecraft was lacking a tropical mod. After coding a butt load of features, Cojo enlisted the help of MrRube for sprites, textures, and designs. As time passed and the scale of the project expanded, FishTaco567, the maker of Better Caves and FPS++, and Corosus, the mastermind behind Destructive Tornadoes and ZombieCraft, joined the Tropicraft team.

Obsidian Sword Hilt

Supports Minecraft 1.2.5

This mod adds a sword hilt crafted from obsidian, which allows you to absorb water and fire to make a blade. The sword hilt must be charged up and the amount of charge corresponds to the amount of water/lava it'll attempt to absorb. By pointing the hilt at the liquid after charging (by holding right-click), it will become a complete sword with durability and power based on amount absorbed. Water swords are obviously in infinite supply, but you should be careful about absorbing lava as lava is not renewable.
